my major milestones

Wow it’s been so long since I last posted. And have I got updates!

Where do I start, hrmmm…

Okay, firstly, I QUIT MY JOB! Yup, after months of sheer torture and blahness in the advertising world, I finally secured meself another job. A bold move it was, since I’m venturing into something I’ve never done before in my 6 years of working—The Corporate World.

Yes, I have joined a HR consultancy and financial management firm. Totally not me, innit? Not entirely true. Because I’m their Marketing Associate. Wahey, this post allows me to put all those marketing subjects I took at uni to good use (note: if it weren’t for my anxiety to be done with uni ASAP and taken just one more marketing unit, my bachelors degree would read “Double Major in Media Studies and Marketing.” Hey, I was young, ok!).

The interesting part of this job is that it’s a brand-new role, so in a way I get to mould this post into whatever I please. And the greatest thing is that my new company is in the midst of re-branding itself, which is ab fab for a person who truly believes in these words:

“Buildings age and become dilapidated. Machines wear out. People die. But what lives on are the brands.” -- Sir Hector Laing, CEO of United Biscuits plc

Seriously, people, branding is the way of the future! Anyways, I’m looking forward to making full use of whatever understanding and experience I’ve gained from my four years in advertising in this new environment. Super!

And my first task? Flying to Singapore for a four-day Asia Pacific Branding & Marketing Forum. Sunday was a “meet-n-greet” cocktails, where I got to break the ice with my regional boss as well as other colleagues from AP. Monday was dedicated to understanding branding and its importance. Tuesday was stuff on PR, marketing plans for FY2007, marketing money management, and interesting workshops. Wednesday was training on the Client Information System at the Sing office.

And to top it off, we went on a river cruise, savoured unbelievably mouth-watering Balinese cuisine at this contemporary Indonesian restaurant called “Bayang” at Clark Quay, as well as enjoyed The Great Singapore Sale! It was fantastic to walk around (and picking up three handbags, a skirt, as well as a 1GB Toshiba thumb for S$55!) and rediscover just how lovely Singapore is. It’s SO clean, it’s unbelievable. Great stuff.

Now, work’s not the only change in my life. On Saturday, the biggest event for me as yet happened: I GOT ENGAGED!

What was supposed to be a small gathering between just two immediate families turned out to be a 100-pax affair—for serious, it felt like a mini nikah, ha! But must say it felt good to hang out with my relatives whom I hardly see, and to have my dearest mates with me all under one roof. Thanks for sharing one of the happiest moments in my life, dearies.

Oh btw, that's my Mak's wedding top I've got on there. She wore it 40 years ago when getting hitched to my Abah. Cool, eh? ;)

Finally, the latest on the World Cup. Loads to get off my chest, but guess this deserves its own title!
